**Father of Stabbed O’Reilly SHS Student Threatens Legal Action Against School Over Son’s Death**
Enoch Sackey, the father of Edward Sackey, an 18-year-old final-year student at O’Reilly Senior High School who tragically died after being stabbed three times in the chest by a fellow student, has announced his intention to sue the school over his son’s death. The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute over whose father was wealthier, occurred on Monday, September 2.
In an interview with Citi FM, Enoch Sackey expressed deep frustration and insisted that the school must be held accountable for the circumstances leading to his son’s untimely death. “We have to sue the school, we have to hold the school responsible,” he stated. “We want the school authorities to explain how such a thing could happen on school premises, with teachers and staff apparently indifferent until it was too late. That is the intention of the family.”
Earlier today, Enoch Sackey, along with other family members dressed in mourning colors of red and black, visited the school demanding justice. Speaking to TV3’s Noble Crosby Annan, he urged the school authorities to clarify the events surrounding the incident. “The school authorities have remained silent since yesterday. The police haven’t contacted us, and the family of the boy who killed my son has not reached out. We want answers from the school and the boy’s parents. We demand justice and want to know what happened,” he said.
An eyewitness, who is also a niece of the deceased, recounted the incident to TV3, accusing the school of negligence. According to her, the teachers did nothing to intervene when the altercation broke out.
“When the chaos started, my brother ran to the teachers who were sitting under a tree in the school compound… I was calling for help, but they ignored me, so I went to my uncle’s shop outside the school to report what was happening since the teachers were doing nothing,” she said.
She further claimed that after the stabbing, the teachers remained unconcerned about Edward’s condition. It was only with the help of a passerby that she managed to transport him to LEKMA Hospital. “No teacher followed us. I went to the hospital alone, and his father later joined. It took us about twenty to thirty minutes to get him to the hospital, but when my uncle arrived, they told him he was gone because he had been stabbed in the chest,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Education Director has confirmed that investigations into the incident have begun, and that the attacker has been arrested.
