“Close Call: Black Stars’ Coaching Team Narrowly Escapes Serious Accident on Tarkwa-Takoradi Road, Days Before Crucial AFCON Qualifier.”
In a harrowing incident, the technical team of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, narrowly avoided a potentially disastrous accident on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road early Sunday morning. The team was returning from the Champion of Champions clash between Nsoatreman and Samartex at the TnA Park when the incident occurred.
The vehicle, a Land Cruiser with registration number GR 6521-21, was carrying Head Coach Otto Addo, Assistant Coach John Paintsil, and Goalkeepers Trainer Fatawu Dauda. The journey took a terrifying turn when the back wheels of the Land Cruiser suddenly detached, placing the occupants in grave danger. According to eyewitnesses, the situation worsened when a pickup truck unexpectedly swerved into the Land Cruiser’s lane, appearing to be on a collision course.
Despite the dangerous circumstances, the driver of the Land Cruiser exhibited remarkable composure and skill, managing to steer the vehicle out of harm’s way and avoiding a head-on collision. The incident could have had catastrophic consequences, but thanks to the quick thinking of the driver, disaster was averted.
Miraculously, all the occupants, including the three coaches and the driver, escaped without serious injuries. However, as a precautionary measure, they were immediately taken to a hospital in Takoradi for thorough medical evaluations. After receiving the necessary medical checks, they are expected to continue their journey to Accra.
This close call comes just days before the Black Stars are set to begin their training camp in Accra on Monday, ahead of a crucial 2025 AFCON qualifier against Angola in Kumasi. The football community is breathing a collective sigh of relief that the coaching staff emerged unscathed and are in good health to lead the team in the upcoming match.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, the priority remains on the safety and well-being of the coaching team as they shift their
focus to the vital fixture ahead.
